SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR MEMBERSHIP IN GALLERY 659

659 Vernon, Glencoe, Illinois 60022

Gallery 659 is a cooperative-style gallery in Glencoe whose diverse membership combines seasoned professional artists with emerging artists.  Artists interested in membership are advised to visit the gallery before applying.  Materials can be submitted for entry at any time for consideration, and artists will be contacted when there is a roster opening to see if they are still available and interested in consideration for membership.

Our members live within a practical distance of the gallery to facilitate attendance at one monthly meeting (first Tuesday evening of the month), one opening reception (first Friday evening of the month), plus one monthly mandatory gallery-sitting day (chosen at their convenience).  Members live in Glencoe and the surrounding suburbs as well as the north side of Chicago.  Members are required to give 20 hours of work/month to gallery work, which includes the six hours of gallery-sitting.  This work may be done at the artist’s home or studio or in the gallery. In addition, members pay monthly dues plus a one-time membership fee.

Interested artists should mail the following materials to the above Gallery 659 address, c/o Cindy Jevon:

  1. CD of 10-20 jpegs of work completed within the last three years, or a sheet of slides.
  2. list of the images describing title, medium, size, and date of completion
  3. resume (list exhibitions, art education or classes)
  4. Brief artist's statement (300 words or less about your art; not a biography)
  5. A paragraph stating why you want to join, what volunteer skills you bring to the gallery and how you picture yourself helping out (e.g., painting walls, fund-raising, sales, communications, etc.)  This is non-binding, but will give you a chance to articulate how you might get involved.
